The Brief

For this project I was asked to produce an 8 second Ident for the channel of my choosing.
I chose to do my 'Sting' for E4, not onlly is it a channel that I watch and have interest in, but it
also holds a copetition every year called 'Estings' where anybody can send in an ident for e4 that
they have made. A good majoraty of these stings get airred and often. Not only will this look
good on your CV, but winners of the competition also get a £15,000 commission to do more e4
projects and 4 runners up each with £1,500 worth of kit.

What are TV idents

Tv idents are used to let the viewer know what channel it is they are watching. This Ident sums up what the channel is about, for example a kids show like nickolodeon wout have a zany ident that would appeal to kids. Where as a channel such as channel 4 has clever idents that express its innovative programming.

This ident or 'sting' is what the viewer will identify with that channel and so will know were to go for the types of shows they want to watch.

Identifying the channel

First I had to establish what the majority of e4 viewers were like, what their tastes were and
why. To do this I looked at the scheduling:

E4 has a certain randomness to its humour and it doesnt take itself too seriously , with lots of comedy shows such as Friends and Scrubs.

And also has programmes aimed at students, with its range of E4 Music shows such as freashly squeazed and it's reality shows like Big Brother, Switched and The Simple LIfe.

E4 airs some of the top American shows like Smallville and Reaper but also a little 'homegrown' stuff too, like Hollyoaks and Skins.

I would say the target age for viewers of this channel start from late teens to Twenty-somethings, but has plenty for all ages.
